# How do I put a dollar value on an Instagram lead?

Multiply the client's close rate by their average sale. If they don't know their close rate, work it out by asking each month which of their Instagram leads became customers. For example, 15 customers out of 54 leads at about $500 each makes a lead worth roughly $140.

The common mistake is borrowing a close rate from an industry benchmark. Clients don't recognise those numbers and don't trust them. A close rate built from their own answers ("these 15 became customers") is one they effectively agreed to.

Ask for the average sale as a range ("somewhere between $400 and $600"). Owners will usually answer a range quickly, and they'll often skip a request for an exact figure.

When you report it, keep confirmed value (customers the client named) separate from estimated value (unknown leads at the same close rate). If the client questions the estimate, the confirmed part still stands.
