Why do clients leave social media agencies?

By Kaitlyn Bricker · October 14, 2026

Mostly because they don't believe the work delivered. In Setup's survey, 48% of clients named delivery issues as the main reason they fired an agency, while only 18% of agencies saw delivery as a top challenge. For organic social, results arrive as DMs and calls the owner handles personally, so the agency doesn't get credit unless it records them.

The gap between those two numbers is the useful part. Agencies tend to assume clients leave for reasons outside their control. Clients mostly say the work didn't deliver, which is something an agency can change.

With organic social the problem is often visibility rather than results. Someone sees a reel, messages to book, and the owner handles it. A month later the owner remembers "people message us", not the post that started it.

The fix is to record every lead with the post that started it, ask the client monthly which ones became customers, and lead every report with that.

The full method is in Why Social Media Agency Clients Leave (and the Reporting Problem Behind Most of It).

Inexra links each client's DMs to the posts that started them and puts the result in a report you can send. It's free to start, and you don't need a card.
